I've got a VFR12 and I love it
By: Web Editor
Dear MSL,
I cannot believe that I have the same bike that Chris Moss found so many flaws with!
Mine is the classier silver one. Have had it a month and done 2000 blissful miles so far. It gets better all the time. Granted, it should have a centrestand and hugger fitted as standard, but that is easily sorted.
Ridden properly the fuel consumption is pretty good I reckon. You only need to be in the 4 to 5000 rev range to make very swift progress and this will get you 170-180 miles before 'reserve' and so long as you brimmed it you are left with about 30 miles worth. That is not at all bad. You can get the sports bike performance by hanging onto the lower gears but this will gobble up the fuel as on any other performance machine.
The panniers are just the right size. I don't want huge boxes to carry helmets in, just a few clothes and bits and bobs suits me.
I find the transmission very smooth.
A six-speed box is there to give you the choice when riding at lower than cruising speeds. Why hang on to top gear?
I'll stop there as I don't want to bore you , but you can tell I'm delighted with mine!
Good magazine and excellent tours.
Regards,
Dave Corner
