By: Tony Carter
Our very own Sir Alan of Cathcart has been back out in the USA on the Bonneville Salt Flats taking a Norton 961 Commando SE to an historic place in the record books.
MSL's Alan Cathcart and the Norton team moments after setting a new record at the Bonneville Salt Flats
The bike was put along the timed straight with an average top speed of 129.191mph.
The bike was put into the annual BUB Motorcycle Speed Trials and took the record for the 1000cc Production Push-rod class. The previous record was set last year on a Buell with that bike then taking a best speed of 126.398mph.
Speaking to MSL HQ last night, Sir Al said: "It was a good series of runs and it's great to be able to ride a standard bike that anyone can go and buy into the record books in such a clearly strong way.
"I am going to stay out here with Norton for a a few days yet while we continue to ride and then will write about our expereicnes exclusively for MSL. We've got some amazing stories to tell!
