Not so miffed. Off.
By: Web Editor
Dear MSL... Perhaps I can redress the balance slightly in regard to Nigel Draper’s letter, Stop Check Miffed Off, in February’s MSL.
I’ve ridden bikes for 46 years, in which all but the last 10 they were my sole form of transport. One bike – a bought from new Triumph T150V – I liked so much I kept it for 22 years and a couple of hundred miles short of 210,000 (going round the clock for the third time) and I was passing through Birmingham on this bike around 1am, on my way to start a very early shift as a train driver at Saltley Loco, when I came up to a police road block with a couple of officers checking documents, etc.
A few seconds after I’d joined the back of the queue one of the officers looked up and saw me. Ignoring the waiting cars he walked down to me, and this is what he said: “Well, sir, I don’t have to ask you if this is your machine, I’ve seen you around on it often enough. Off you go.”
And off I went.
