TOURING: Kickstart your next big adventure with Motorrad Tours

by

There’s no doubt that the UK has some amazing motorcycle roads – and while there’s a huge amount to offer motorcyclists on our little island, chances are you might fancy venturing a little further afield to Europe, and possibly even beyond. And what better way to get inspired than a grand showcase of some of the best two-wheeled tours and travel options across the globe from our friends at Motorrad Tours.

Motorrad Days

Do you like motorbikes? How about sausages and beer? If you answered a hearty “Heck yes!” to either of those, then Motorrad Days, BMW’s annual motorcycling festival at Garmisch, is where you should be heading this summer. Motorrad Tours run a trip from the UK to join the 40,000-strong party in the heart of Bavaria, taking in fantastic roads and four-star hotels on the way. At the festival itself, you’ll find bike displays, beer tents, stunt shows, live music and ride-outs to iconic roads such as the Stelvio Pass. Included in the trip is a VIP dinner on the main night of the festival, with a few steins of cold lager and a traditional German Oompah band.

When? The Motorrad Tours trip to Motorrad Days runs from 3 – 10 July.

Alaska and the Canadian Rockies

Explore the real Americas, far away from four-lane freeways and Route-66 gift shops. This trip takes you deep into the Alaskan countryside, through frontier towns and remote settlements. Ride up the ‘Top of the World” highway to discover lakes, glaciers and the Canadian Rockies; the scenery on this trip is properly stunning, with the chance to see bear, deer and to go fishing in the lakes. As well as fishing, there are opportunities throughout the trip for helicopter rides, cycling, walking and white water rafting, or just take the time off to relax and enjoy the surroundings. From Anchorage, through the tiny, remote settlement of Hyder (population 70) and back to Portland, the hospitality is as breathtaking as the views.

When? This trip starts at Anchorage on 12 August and finishes in Portland nineteen incredible days later on 31 August.

Pyrenees

Instead of following the masses to the Alps, why not try a different taste of mountain riding in the Pyrenees? With long, flowing riding on quieter roads, the Mountains: Pyrenees trip with Motorrad tours is definitely a riders’ trip. Sure, there are nights in stunning Parador hotels, but the focus is on riding bikes on incredible mountain passes. From the famous Eje Pirenaico (the Axis of the Pyrenees), to the road running between Col Del Nargo and Berga, with smaller, lesser-known singletrack beauties in between, the riding is endless and sure to leave you with frazzled tyres and a smile on your face.

Arctic

The Arctic is normally associated with vast, snow-covered wildernesses, but during the summer months, there is a stunning, warm landscape waiting to be explored. The total darkness of the winter months is balanced during the summer with the sky always light, illuminating Norway’s beautiful fjords and glaciers. The Motorrad Tours trip, takes in the Arctic Circle monument, marking the edge of the Arctic Circle, the lowest point where you can see the Midnight Sun in the summer. But this trip isn’t just about ticking off bucket-list items, there are winding roads, bridges that seem to defy gravity and wharfs lined with clapboard-buildings. Norway is a truly unique destination and definitely fits the bill for a trip somewhere different.

When? This fifteen-day tour takes place from 19 July – 4 August

Colombia

Revived and rejuvenated since the bad old days of drug cartels and kidnappings, Colombia is now a welcoming destination, offering a vibrant mix of scenery and climate and, of course, some of the best coffee in the world. The Motorrad Tours Andean Adventure takes in Carribean coastlines, tropical forests, the high peaks of the Andes mountains and the energetic capital city of Bogota. The busy city traffic is followed up with cobblestone roads in the time-capsule village of Villa de Leyva, before heading onto endless winding mountain roads. Two nights on a coffee plantation are a perfect chance to sample the brews and relax, before heading into the Andes for more mountain riding en route to the fortified town of Cartagena.

When? The Motorrad Tours trip to Colombia runs from 29 August to 8 September
